Studying by correspondence is like having a long distance romance. There are both advantages and disadvantages to such a relationship. The advantage is that you get plentyof space. The disadvantage is that sometimes you get too much space. Too much ofanything is bad.
In fact, sometimes, you may get so much space in a long distance romance that you may forget that you have one. This only leads to problems. The same can happen with distance education through Unisa - because you don’t go to lectures everyday you may be tempted to forget that you are studying at all. This leads to procrastination, which is the thief oftime, and time is money.
The single most obvious advantage to both long distance study and long distance relationships is the distance itself. Perhaps it is distance rather than absence that makesthe heart grow fonder.
Nevertheless there will still be disagreements and arguments. Given the distance involved these arguments will take place over the phone. Sometimes you may feel neglected when "the other' takes (what seems to be) too long to answer the phone or reply to your emails.
It is best to view such occurrences as a test of character and perseverance. Don’t let themget you down. In the end love (of a significant other or of education) conquers all.
